JOB TITLE:
Commissioning Supervisor II

REPORTS TO:
Director of Projects


JOB SUMMARY:
The Commissioning Supervisor II provides engineering support for commissioning projects at industrial
facilities such as processing plants, gas compression facilities, mining facilities and other related types of
projects. The Commissioning Supervisor II has authority over supervisory professionals or a large group
containing both professional and non-professionals, and focuses on engineering, testing, and
troubleshooting during the start-up and commissioning phase of a plant. The Commissioning Supervisor II
delivers detailed execution plans to achieve Construction Verification, Pre-Commissioning and
Commissioning turn-over for a project. This includes planning, organizing, directing and controlling the
work activities of all technicians, commissioning engineers, vendors and laborers. Executes completion
activities at project sites and verifies that documentation is completed.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Has authority over and oversees commissioning teams and activities.
  • Verify and record key commissioning testing.
  • Develop Logical Start-Up Units.
  • Input to Level 4 schedule.
  • Participate in HAZOP/PHA.
  • Define site requirements.
  • Develop system and subsystem definition and boundaries.
  • Identify data exchange between engineering, suppliers, etc.
  • Troubleshoot and correct engineering deficiencies on site, relating to electrical, mechanical,
    controls, and instrumentation.
  • Oversees troubleshooting and testing of circuit and/or design problems.
  • Develop and execute work packages, ensuring that the required procedures, check-sheets, and
    other items of information are assembled properly.
  • Reviews completed work packages for accuracy.
  • Addresses engineering issues during commissioning.
  • Hands on support for commissioning/start-up activities.
  • Red-lines and updates master drawing sets in the field as required.
  • Generates Field Change Notices.
  •  Provides engineering support for troubleshooting and testing.
  • Provides daily progress updates to Commissioning Manager or Project Manager.

    process related closed-loop control systems.
  • Knowledge of low voltage power distribution, instrumentation and controls engineering.
  • Knowledge of automation (PLC / DCS) and electrical system design, diagnosis and operation.
  • Read and understands electrical schematics and drawings.
  • Knowledge of engineering principles, practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the National Electrical Code.
  • Knowledge of API codes as applied to electrical installations.
  • Ability to operate various power, voltage and current measurement equipment via test instruments
    and hand tools.
  • Ability to analyze and solve complex problems.
  • Comfortable expressing an independent opinion, resilient to change and recognizes impact of their
    decision on others.
  • Will follow instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the function of the job under
    general supervision.


WORK CONDITIONS:

  • Working on-site in heavy industrial environments mostly but not limited to mining and gas
    industries. These environments may have the following conditions: Extreme temperature
    conditions, both hot and cold; in and/or around moisture; on slippery and/or uneven surfaces, in
    confined spaces; and at heights.
  • Hours of operation and employee schedules vary based off each project and may require irregular
    or extended hour and travel for project completion.
  • Up to 80% travel, including both domestic and international travel.
  • Will require frequent standing, occasional bending, squatting, climbing, twisting, balancing and
    reaching.
  • Will have exposure to noise, vibrations, well-treating chemicals, glycol, methanol, gasoline, natural
    gas and liquid hydrocarbons.
  • Will follow instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the function of the job under
    general supervision.
  • Will often work alone with minimum supervision.


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, or equivalent experience in Project Commissioning.
  • 8+ years of experience in the electrical, mechanical, or controls engineering field.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record.
